Citizen of the World RSS

I'd like to use tumblr to remember my travels, bring attention to the fantastic yet unsettling life of a foreign service child and to rediscover the fun I had in Zambia, South Africa, Portugal, Germany and Austria. I had a unique childhood that provided me with lots of adventures and a worldly perspectives. Now, I hope to share my stories and experiences to give a greater understanding of the third culture child.
As an American who lived 90% of my life overseas created an identity crisis. I couldn't identify with the typical American childhood and I was constantly moving into a new culture and having to learn new survival skills. I was fortunate to have a loving and supportive family and friends around the world to give me a great community.
It's not easy growing up with parents working in the Foreign Service, but it is truly incredible and worth every experience.

I received great news from my friend Sam this morning. He’s been accepted to Goldsmiths University in London where he’ll be studying History. We’ve been close since we met at the age of 4 in Lisbon, Portugal. He is a fellow third culture child, his father was a well known British author with one of the best personalities, and his mom was at the BBC and she also one of the most talented people I know! While I was living in Vienna, Sam and his family were living in Rome, Italy. Sam visited us a couple of times during our stay, and it was with him, that I learned to ski!
We’ll be celebrating his success this summer, July, in London and Lisbon! Cheers Sam!
